Music is my drug, and I am addicted to it…The Starbucks Story

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Music is my drug, and I am addicted to it – kinda like some people are addicted to Starbucks.. So – here is my Starbucks experience from today….

Today, after a whirlwind of bridal activity, I had an evening meeting at Starbucks, which I like to refer to as the “Business Office 2.0″

I met with Carissa and her fiancee.. a great couple who plan on having their event at The Pavillion of East Cobb… a great location with a HUGE dance floor and a very professional yet classy set up… check them out at http://www.pavillioncatering.com/ … so Carissa, the bride, was ablsolutely exstatic about her wedding and you could just feel the excitement – it was infectious…and the groom…i thought he might be in sales or something similar…because of his outgoing personality, his personal style (tie with dress shirt, but tie not pulled exactly even, his hair style, etc … why am i writing all of this? because he was a “controller”… not in the bad sense…but the job sense..a financial controller… did not see that coming…but i knew between the two of them, he with his great attitude and very entertaining sense of humor and her with her infectious happy attitude, that this event would be a smashing success…

So why blog about this couple BEFORE the big day? because of a funny story… we were sitting at Starbucks chatting and the groom pointed out another bridal couple chatting with a photographer sitting next to us… he thought it was funny and called Starbucks “The Brides Haven”… there is something to that for sure… as a vendor we try to locate an area to meet that is convenient – for both parties… and of course Starbucks are everywhere!

so back to the story… after thanking Carissa and her beau for their time, i decide to get a White chocolate mocha… my fave!

I digress! So after chatting with the Starbucks crew for a moment, the photographer (whom the groom had pointed out…) said “Hey how are you?” I know what that meant, somewhere in the past, we had worked together…He had a familiar face… and guess what… he pulls out a demo album shot in mid 2006 and shows me a few images from a wedding we worked… and there is a picture of me working the crowd… and he said to his bridal clients… this was a great event.. it was really fun….and they just smiled at me…wow… ok, i have had some pretty interesting … aka … neat… things happen…but that was one of those moments… where you just feel good about what you are doing… i had to ask for his card and told him to contact me… when he does i will post those photos and his link here…

so to wrap up … the Starbucks girls – they said.. “we listened to you during your meeting and it sounds like you really know what you are doing”… ends up two of the three girls knew someone getting married looking for a great DJ… and they wanted to pass my info along…what a great day!

Atlanta Wedding DJ Joel Rabe of Lethal Rhythms in Jekyll Island

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

I have to start a post somehow… so why not with the review of Cara and Drew’s wedding ceremony and reception at Jekyll Island, GA on June 21 2008? Just a few weeks back…

This has to have been one of the top 5 stylish weddings I have done this past year… ok, top 10. I have done a lot of elegant wedding receptions in Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, Jekyll Island and even in Destin and Jacksonville FL!
The crazy thing about this particular event was how much color was infused by the bride, and just how fashionable it really was!
Take a look at some of the photos (provided by Scarlett Lillian – an amazing fashion style shooter)… check her out at http://www.scarlettlillian.net/ (blog) or her site at http://www.scarlettlilllian.com/ .
So you see all the color? Obviously an outdoor ceremony right? …imagine how the bride felt when…it rained JUST before her outdoor ceremony was to take place… ok, for me, as the “DJ” part, I was supposed to be playing the ceremony music….so I had already set up and had to break down and move inside the Jekyll Island Club “emergency ceremony room” …
When I was inside, I saw the bride for the first time in her dress – and she was crying! Because the rain was ruining her outdoor wedding ceremony dreams — so, if you know me, I will do absolutely anything for the client – so I told her if she wanted to wait and see if the rain would slow, we could set up (again) outside.
Needless to say, (and to make a long story short) the bride requested we move outside…the rain was coming in bands, which meant start, stop, start, stop…. I ended up moving back and forth three times – and setting up each time – just so Cara could have her sunny day.
The funniest part of the story is on the third time the father of the bride came up and said… “um… I am supposed to ask you something….” and I said.. “let me guess….”
The amazing part of the story is that the grandparents of the bride were delayed for whatever reason and would have missed the ceremony if things had gone according to schedule… and actually arrived just in time to be escorted down the aisle …. it was an amazing event – once it finally started!
Here are the comments from the bride and groom, and the bride’s parents…
=)
Hi Joel, I wanted to send you an email to tell you what a fantastic job you did at Cara and Drew’s wedding. We are so grateful for your patience and understanding when the weather did not cooperate. We felt bad to put you through all the back and forth with multiple set ups. You set up three times! You were amazing! The Hotel staff went on and on about how great you are to work with – Now we understand – Thank you for that! Our guests are still talking about how great the D.J. / Entertainer was and how fun you made the reception. The music is key to the whole event and you made it all come together. Thank you so much from my husband and myself and from Cara and Drew. We will give you a rave review any time. Again thank you for a wonderful evening we will never forget. And next time we need a fantastic D.J., we know where to find you!Wishing you the best,
Ron & Kim \ June 21, 2008

Hey Joel! Sorry it’s taken so long for me to get back to you, things have been so crazy since the wedding ended, it’s weird how life just keeps going. Although that day everyone, INCLUDING you, made Drew and I feel like we were the only ones in the world. I could never find the words to thank you enough for making the vision of our outdoor wedding come to life, even with the rain setting everything back. You worked so hard and I know it was such a pain, but I can never tell you how much that meant to us. You went above and beyond to ensure that our day was everything we wanted it to be. From the moment that music started and the wedding party was walking down the aisle, memories were made that we will never forget. You were so caring and helpful and I still remember seeing you for the first time in that little room and just crying so hard, I knew right then that you were going to help do anything you could to make my wedding dreams come true. My biggest regret throughout the whole wedding was that we couldn’t have the reception longer because you were so amazing! Everyone was having such a great time and even Drew’s grandmother who we have NEVER seen dance was up on the dance floor. There were so many memorable moments during the course of that day and you were the reason for so many of them. You are amazing at what you do and your talent speaks for itself, anyone would be lucky to have you as their DJ and I am so glad we had the opportunity. Thank you so much and we look forward to working with you in one way or another in the future. All our love and thanks,Cara and Drew

Tell-All Thursday: Top 10 Wedding Dress Trends of 2010

Looking to make a statement with your wedding dress?  Consider a bold one-shoulder style, peekaboo holes on the bodice, or black and white ruffles throughout like these designs.

Looking for something less fearless and more feminine?   Why don’t you consider dresses with bows, flowers, or an illusion neckline like these designs below?

Courtesy of The Knot

Personally, I am crazy about any of these gowns (not that I’m planning on marrying again so what does it matter?!) but I like bits and pieces of some of the dresses.  I decided to contact my extremely talented and very close friend, Holly Curran, to design the perfect dress (just for fun, of course!) incorporating some of these trends into one design.  Here is the fabulous result:

Holly was able to combine the following designs to create this sketch:  sheer illusion neckline, bits of black, metallic beading, flower beading/garden glamour, bow, pleading on the sash, raw edge hemline and a little 50s flair with the trumpet silhouette.  Check out the 10 individual styles here

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you started a trend, bought the finest runway gown of the year, or got the dress you fell in love with regardless of its popularity!  Because what matters more than what you wear that day, is how you two feel about each other!  And although there is no recipe for Happily Ever After, there are three very important ingredients:  love, loyalty and happiness!  And incorporating those three elements into your life would be one of the greatest and timeless trends you will ever share!

Did you know that  Lethal Rhythms is your source for DJ/Bands, Video, Lighting and Event Planning?!!

First, DJ Joel was featured as the emcee for Atlanta Weddings’ 3rd Annual Wedding Party this past June!  Then, Lethal Rhythms was highlighted in Christopher and Stephanie Gilchrist’s wedding as both their event coordinators and entertainers!  How exciting?!!

Check out the latest issue of Atlanta Weddings (how gorgeous is that 40′s-retro-inspired cover, by the way?) to read about these events we’ve been so honored to be a part of!

Thanks for Spinnin’ onto our Blogspot!

Welcome to our brand new blog!  Here you will learn about our company and what we do that has made us who we are (that would be the #1 entertainers in the Southeast in case you were wondering)!

When I moved to GA last Fall, I decided to pursue my passion for events head-on! I ran into Joel Rabe, owner of Lethal Rhythms, in the summer of 2009 at the Bridal Bar’s Grand Opening (an amazing event by the way!).  Minutes after speaking with him, I realized his immense infatuation with his career! He is so determined, very hard-working, and extremely business savvy!  It wasn’t long before we connected and started working together.

Today, I work as the marketing strategist for Lethal Rhythms and I coudn’t be more in love with what I do!  I adore meeting happy new couples looking to us for help designing their event. I also enjoy meeting other professionals in the area and learning more about them and what they do! There is so much talent in the metro-Atlanta area and I am honored to be a part of it.  Ok, so that’s that about me!  Here’s some info about our company -

Here at Lethal Rhythms, we we want to know what you are dreaming of, looking for and expecting!  When we meet with you, we spend about 10 to 15 minutes learning about you.  We want to understand what you are about, guide you throughout this exciting planning process, and design your event around you!

Here some facts about us that you may not have known:

  • We perform over 200 events a year;
  • We travel all around the United States;
  • Unlike most DJ companies who book 4 hours per event, we book 6;
  • Joel selects and trains each DJ on his team;
  • His team of DJs compliments different styles;
  • All of our entertainers have Lethal Rhythms e-mail addresses and work only for Lethal Rhythms;
  • Each entertainer also has a bio which includes contact info, a list of references, and testimonials; and
  • We help design a style based on your event and your venue from the moment the music starts until the end of the night!

So what happens next?

Ok, your initial consultation is always with owner, Joel Rabe.  Joel will recommend the best DJ that matches your personality, style and budget.  You then choose who you want as your entertainer!  We encourage you to speak with and meet your DJ prior to booking!  At Lethal Rhythms, you will never book blindly!

And get this!  Lethal Rhythms performs at many public events where you can see us in action!  We are the exclusive entertainment for the Bridal Bar, the go-to DJs for Jezebel Magazine, perform at the largest parties in the Southeast and are the DJs for the New Years Even Downtown Countdown.

So now that you know some of what we’re about, be sure to stop by our blog often to see what we have going on!   Remember, we design your event around your Style, Vision, and Taste!

 2010 is going to R O C K and you do not want to miss it!

So follow us;

 join us;

 and let us make your event the party of the year!!
