The Bike Jitters_Team Member Kra Riddell

Where do I start! I’ve always thought it was so cool when bikers rode by, revved their engines at a light, and rode free through the city boundless by the surrounding materials of a car! The sign of being in an elite club when a rider puts their hand down after passing another rider, almost like saying “what’s up!” I Want That!

My dad bought a Harley Touring Bike a couple of years ago and I got to ride on the back, feeling a part of this bad”A” club. The air blowing through my hair, the cuteness of wearing skinny jeans, boots, a leather jacket, and a colorful scarf blowing behind me in the wind, made my urge to learn how to ride a Harley stronger. Being able to feel the wind blow through my hands, the sense of excitement, my adrenaline running through my veins along with other emotions (scared, happy), I told everyone I wanted the Harley Davidson Night Rider. I knew that would be a hott bike to ride!

I later came to find out that bike is way to powerful for me; some people suggest the Sportster, but I know I want the Dyna Street Bob. It has been stuck in my head, one day I will have my own bike and will cruise around town, take trips with my dad, and enter the official cool club! When this would happen, I had no idea; I had to take the biker course!

December of 2011 came so quickly after two years of talking-up learning how to ride a bike. Killer Creek Harley Davidson of Alpharetta was throwing their Holiday Party and wanted Lethal Rhythms DJ Joel Rabe to party with them! Being swift on my feet, I knew I had to chat with their awesome representative and photographer, Mandi Harris! Joel Rabe and myself received two bike courses. The excitement rushing through my body was more than words could ever describe, all my “talk” turned into action that was to take place Feb. 23rd-26th 2012!

Reality struck over Christmas! My boyfriend was supportive but not on the approving side. I jokingly mentioned he could hold on to me on the back or sit in my side cart! My dad was nervous, but happy I was taking the course. He didn’t approve, but bought me really nice full fingered curved Harley Davidson gloves.

On Feb. 17th nervousness hit me from all sides. I was in Hawaii trying to Scuba Dive; skipping the PADI Bubble Maker course, I might add, and didn’t master the skills. I’ve been a swimmer (strong) since I was 4 years old and had experience swimming in oceans. I was fine breathing under water, but clearing my mask of water, under water freaked me out! I did exactly what I was told and it just kept filling back up, I felt like I was drowning, but could breath. I know it doesn’t make much sense, so I decided to lay on the boat and “maybe” try the Bubble Maker course in a pool here in Atlanta before going into open waters.

All I’ve been able to think about since then was, if I can master this course and be comfortable on a bike, in traffic, and have the skills not to kill myself! I can ride a bike (the pedal ones), drive a manual, and am a quick learner that is pretty adventurous. Will this be enough for me? The class starts at 6:00 PM tonight and I’m hoping all my fears of falling and actually driving will be lifted!

Stay tuned…I’ll let you know how the first day goes tomorrow!

ROY G. BIV: What’s your color story?

One of my favorite mnemonic devices from elementary school that I vividly remember was Roy G. Biv. For all my 4th grade science daydreamers out there, Roy G. Biv is an acronym that stands for the visible part of the electromagnetic light spectrum. In lamen terms, it’s the order of colors that appear in the rainbow! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet!! Just as mnemonic devices are a tool for teachers who want to help their student’s remember important facts, Preston Bailey’s The Color Palette Picker is an excellent tool for brides who need help picking out their color scheme!

I stumbled across The Color Palette Picker while checking out PrestonBailey.com and had to share this amazing tool with all of you! Whether you’re trying to figure out colors for your special day or are in the midst of planning some other type of event, this easy to use tool is a great way to help you visualize your event’s color scheme!

Start by selecting a color from his palette that sparks your imagination:

Then answer a few short questions about your event.

Then add in the Preston factor!

Presto! Your done!! Now it’s time to check out your color palette! I hope you find this as helpful as I did!!!

Green Gables On Ponce: Atlanta’s Hidden Gem

I had the pleasure of getting to tour Green Gables on Ponce earlier this week and completely fell in love with this venue!!! Although Green Gables is currently celebrating its centennial year of existence, it is only two months old in “venue-years”, which can only make me believe that there will be many more years of exquisite events to come!

Built in 1911 and nestled in Atlanta’s beautiful Druid Hills district, Green Gables was the former private resident to a prominent brewery executive and later sold to a community leader before the family sold the estate to the adjacent church where it became the parsonage for over 30 years. After undergoing a few Italian inspired renovations, Green Gables is now the perfect setting for your wedding ceremony, reception, birthday party, or corporate event.

Floral gardens, enchanting fountains and a staircase fit for a queen are just a small sampling of the many posh amenities that Green Gables on Ponce offers its guests. Additional features include: an elegant outdoor pool, brick patio area with tree covered lush gardens, a chic modern bridal suite and gentleman’s lounge, as well as convenient on site private parking with valet options!

With over 3,000 square feet of beautiful indoor event space this venue can hold 100-125 guests indoors and up to 250 outdoor guests.  And because Green Gables does not have any nearby residents, the spacious outdoor gardens are the perfect space for guests to enjoy outdoor entertainment without the fear of violating any noise ordinances!!

To book your next event at Green Gables On Ponce, be sure to give our friends Voncell Johnson or Sarah Mincher a call!!

2012: The Year Of Romance

Gowns, Themes, Venues…Oh My!! With so many options and so little time, how do you go about planning the perfect 2012 wedding? Just think- dreamy, sentimental, love. With the New Year just shy of a month away, here are a few things to keep in mind when planning your special day:

1.) Illusion Necklines: For the perfect balance of sexy & sophisticated, try an Illusion Neckline for 2012.  An illusion neckline combines a skin-baring bodice with a sheer fabric overlay extending from the bust to the collar. Check out this gorgeous Carolina Herrera piece below.

2.) Full Scale Themes: One of the main wedding trends for 2012 is going with a full-scale theme!! Don’t just pick one theme for one aspect of your wedding!  A full scale theme is carried throughout the invites, save the dates, flowers, centerpieces and even the food and desserts. Think Vintage, Rustic and Natural! But more importantly, be sure it reflects YOU!

3.) Outdoor Venues: Outdoor weddings have been becoming increasingly more popular throughout the last couple of years and looks to continue into 2012. An outdoor venue not only provides a beautiful natural ambiance, but also requires very little additional decor. Think beaches, mansions, country clubs, family farms, and museums! Check out the photo below! This was taken at the beautiful Rose Garden, which is located at Atlanta Botanical Gardens near Piedmont Park in Atlanta.

4.) Dessert Tables: Did you know that stressed spelled backwards is desserts?!! Coincidence? I think not…why go with one option when you can have a whole table full? Instead of the traditional Wedding Cake & Groom’s Cake, Dessert Tables are a great way to incorporate both the brides & grooms favorite treats.

5.) Good Night Stations: Aside from the ice-cream and birthday cake, everyone knows that the next best thing about attending a birthday party as a kid were the fabulous goodie bags!! So why not continue that trend as an adult and see that your guests have a little something to take home with them! The goodnight station is set to take the wedding world by storm in 2012. A goodnight station is a table full of additional goodies to see guests off at the end of the night. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are credited to have started this trend back in 2002 by providing Krispy Kreme donuts for their guests as they departed from the reception. Yum!

6.) Faux Flower Decor: Think outside the vase. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when creating your flowers and decorations. Why not try feathers for a fun, flirty, flower-alternative to traditional wedding bouquets?!!  Fabric, tissue and paper can also be used as creative alternatives.

7.) Personalized DIY Decor: Although DIY is not necessarily a new trend, it continues to stay strong as Brides find creative ways to showcase their personality and save some cash. DIY, or do-it-yourself, wedding reception centerpieces and decorations typically reflect you, your fiance and your wedding theme more than anything a florist could put together for you, and you’ll do it for a fraction of the cost. Nature-inspired accents are just one of the many hot bridal trends for 2012.
